What's Different This Time?

Additional Community Engagement: You spoke and we listened to members of the community. We organized a community working group who met frequently with the school board, administration, and staff to develop a new plan.

Primary needs Community Working Group emphasized:
  1. Space needs for preschool, special education, learning needs, and activities
  2. Eliminate Crossing the Street in Newfolden for safety and to increase learning time

Three new options were considered ranging from 18.9 million dollars to 28.9 million dollars.

Needs assessment was developed comparing each of the plans.
  • Plan Comparison Outline

Tax Impact Significantly Reduced due to:
  • Enbridge Line 3 Expansion and Pumping Station Upgrades
  • 70% Ag2School Credit for Farmers (was 60% last year)
  • MN Residential Property Tax Refund for qualifying homeowners and renters

Removed Demolition of Newfolden Elementary School from Ballot.

Reduced Project Scope to maintain and retain use of Newfolden Elementary, modified addition to High School, and renovate a portion of Viking Elementary to save costs.

This plan addresses all primary needs adding space to help us now and into the future. It also will eliminate crossing the highway for elementary and high school students adding instructional time in reduced transition and increasing safety.
